What I first imagined as a “wanderer’s jacket” soon morphed into the Butterfly jacket. The tucked stitches bring dimension to the piece and build up the body sleeves and side panels with detailed stitches. The piece uses naturally-dyed and hand-woven indigo fabric with plant-dyed thread.
The tunic attains its shimmering golden glow from turmeric-dyed cotton which lays under the Four Seasons piece that highlights each season with a different thread color derived from nature's diverse flora.
Each time I create this piece I take my feelings of the moment to generate originality. Each pattern meets another in an asymmetrical way creating an exciting puzzle for the eye. The fabric was dipped 60 times in natural indigo plant dye with thread dyed from chestnut onion and other plants.
The Swing Coat was born out of the desire to create an innovative 3-dimensional shape that gives dynamic movement to textile art. This coat is hand-stitched on delicately woven cotton fabric. The fabric and thread are both hand-dyed with natural plants such as indigo.
