BURCHARD
I find my self much intrigued by the
wild and expressive possibilities that working with wood that
is highly unstable offers. My process is experimental,
unpredictable. I use wood from the roots of the Madrone tree
which grows in the Northwest. I strive to let its history,
it’s energy be part of my work. Transforming, reducing,
abstracting. Comparing it to black and white photography, I
remove the color and focus on the spirit, the essence of the
objects. I treasure their quiet
simplicity.
