My "Aqua Series" is inspired by wave
patterns in water and the patterns of raked sand in Japanese
gardens. I exploit the transparency and translucency of glass
so that the work appears to change color with the clothing on
which it is worn. I also use negative space in the work so the
fabric becomes part of the composition. I think of this work
as "site adaptive" jewelry. In my "Magnification Series",
some pieces magnify the weave of the fabric, while in others,
like the two in this application, the optics of the glass and
the acid polished matte surface cause the design to display
subtle shifts of color and light as the brooch is viewed from
different angles. My objective is to exploit the fact that
jewelry isn't static, but is seen in
motion.
