These large, high temperature terracotta vessels are sectionally thrown using a variation of a technique pioneered by Japanese Living National Treasure potter, Inoue Manji, the applicant's teacher. While still moist, each vessel's surface is brushed with a varied palette of clay slips, yielding rich, low luster finishes that uniquely capture the individual characteristics of the fire. The objective is to celebrate the elemental nature of clay through the quiet strength and classic beauty of the finished pot.
